Current Students Committee
About the Current Student’s Committee
The Current Students Committee connects current IST and SRA students to the IST Alumni Society. We team up with IST student organizations and College staff to provide professional and social events and programs to students. Below are some of our past activities:
Coordinating a college-wide mentoring program between students and Alumni.
This program began in 2007 and was initially targeted to the Security and Risk Analysis Club. In 2008, we expanded the program to be open to all students. We had so many Alumni interested in being mentors last year that we had to put most of them on a waiting list. We’re working with the College to offer this program to students again next fall.
Social Events
We host social and fun events like kickball and the ice skating social mentioned above. This spring we sponsored a student-organized scavenger hunt. Students and alumni contributed on a great set of clues. For example, one of the items was to take a picture at the highest and lowest elevations possible on campus. The four members of the winning team were rewarded with iPod shuffles.
Sponsoring a panel discussion led by the Consulting Club
We worked with the Consulting Club and IST Honors Society to host a panel consisting of IST Alumni and industry executives. We were fortunate to get a good mix of panel members and a great student turnout. The panel discussion was followed by a social at the ice skating rink.
Sponsoring study breaks with coffee and donuts for students
Each semester close to finals, we purchase coffee and donuts for students and set up a table in the IST Building. This is one of our easier events to plan and execute, but that doesn’t make it any less appreciated by the students!
Acting as a point of contact between students and alumni
The president of the IST Student Government and the Current Students Chair maintain regular contact during the school year, providing a stable point of communication between students and alumni. We’ve also been trying to attend at least one Student Government meeting a semester.
